Infants and toddlers
This group gives parents of younger children, 0-3 a chance to meet with other Swedish parents. We provide toys that are suitable for young children and parents are responsible for their child. If the weather permits we play outside in our large beautiful garden.
For 3-4 year olds. This class has a teaching assistant but the parents are with their children during the lesson. They do painting, creative work and also sing the traditional Swedish songs.
This is a pre-school groups for children from the ages of 4 to 5 year olds. Our aim is to help the children devolope their swedish language skills, both comprehension and communication, by engaging in a variety of activities that children enjoy such as crafts, singing, reading stories and playing games. We also use tradtional songs and traditional games as a way of communicating the Swedish culture.
Emil och Pippi
Children in this class are 5-6 years old. Topics are introduced in this group and the children learn about different professions, colours, plants and animals as well as about different celebrations eg. birthdays, mother’s day and father’s day. At this age we start with simple grammar and the children learn about nouns, verbs and adjectives. They listen to stories, discuss and then retell the story.
Children in Mumintrollen are 6-8 years old and this class bridges the gap between the play-orientated younger groups and the academically focused older groups. Although the teaching method is still based on play, the children get an opportunity to develop their basic reading and writing skills. We make sure we spend a lot of time talking in Swedish by reading stories, singing and having discussions.
Children in this group learn about Astrid Lindgren and the stories she wrote. They learn about family and the home and they learn numbers up to 1 000. They discuss items of clothing and leisure time. In grammar we cover nouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, verbs (incl. tenses)
This class is for the oldest children who are given the opportunity to read different types of texts and subjects. The children are encouraged to use their language independently both in speech and in writing, while developing their language by extending their vocabulary and working on spelling, pronunciation and grammar in different contexts.
